Hyla sazimai Cardoso and Andrade, 1982, Rev. Brasil. Biol., 42: 589. Holotype: MNRJ 4149, by original designation. Type locality: "Chapadão da Zagaia, Parque Nacional Serra da Canastra, São Roque de Minas, Minas Gerais, Brasil (46° 50′ W 20° 10′ S; approx. 1350 m alt.)".

In the Hyla circumdata group, according to the original publication. In the Bokermannohyla circumdata group of Faivovich, Haddad, Garcia, Frost, Campbell, and Wheeler, 2005, Bull. Am. Mus. Nat. Hist., 294: 82-83. Giasson and Ribeiro, 2007, Check List, 2(3): 7-8, extended the range to the municipality of Araxá, Minas Gerais, Brazil. Carvalho, Giaretta, and Magrini, 2012, Zootaxa, 3321: 37-55, reported on advertisement call structure. Carvalho and Giaretta, 2013, Phyllomedusa, 12: 33-45, reported on geographic variation in call and morphology and provided five new localities in Minas Gerais, Brazil, and a spot map.  Neves, Yves, Pereira Silva, Alves, Vasques, Coelho, and Silva, 2019, Herpetozoa, Wien, 32: 113–123, provided habitat information and a record for western Minas Gerais, Brazil.
