Ecnomiohyla minera — Faivovich, Haddad, Garcia, Frost, Campbell, and Wheeler, 2005, Bull. Am. Mus. Nat. Hist., 294: 100.
English Names
Guatemala Treefrog (Frank and Ramus, 1995, Compl. Guide Scient. Common Names Amph. Rept. World: 56).
Distribution
Known in Guatemala at elevations of 701–1830 m including cloud forests in the Sierra de las Minas, Baja Verapaz, and the Caribbean slope of the Sierra de las Cuchumatanes, Huehuetenango, as well as from highland rainforest habitat in the Sierra de Santa Cruz, Izabal, Guatemala; southern part of the Maya Mountains in the Toledo District, Belize, in highland rainforest. Presumably to be found in Mexico adjacent to the Sierra Cuchumatanes in Guatemala.
Comment
Campbell, 1998, Amph. Rept. N. Guatemala Yucatan Belize: 83, suggested that Hyla minera was a synonym of Hyla valancifer; subsequently Campbell, Smith, and Acevedo, 2000, Herpetologica, 56: 250–256, suggested that Hyla minera and Hyla valancifer were sister species on either side of the Isthmus of Tehuantepec. In the Hyla miliaria group; see Duellman, 2001, Hylid Frogs Middle Am., Ed. 2: 893–895, Lee, 1996, Amph. Rept. Yucatan Peninsula: 97–100, and Lee, 2000, Field Guide Amph. Rept. Maya World: 105–107 (as Hyla valancifer) for account. See comments by McCranie and Wilson, 2002, Amph. Honduras: 279–280, on the controversy surrounding the distinctiveness of this taxon from Hyla valancifer. See illustration, map, description of geographic range and habitat, and conservation status in Stuart, Hoffmann, Chanson, Cox, Berridge, Ramani, and Young, 2008, Threatened Amph. World: 245. Köhler, 2011, Amph. Cent. Am.: 222–226, provided a brief summary of natural history for the species of Ecnomiohyla in Central America and provided a range map and photograph for this species. Vázquez-Almazán, Herman, and López, 2014, Herpetol. Rev., 45: 86, provided a record for the Sierra de los Cuchumatanes, Huehuetenango, Guatemala, extending the range considerably westerward. See account by Mendelson, Eichenbaum, and Campbell, 2015, S. Am. J. Herpetol., 10: 190–191.
