Placed in the synonymy of Hyla miliaria by Duellman, 1970, Monogr. Mus. Nat. Hist. Univ. Kansas: 352, but subsequently removed by Duellman, 2001, Hylid Frogs Middle Am., Ed. 2: 793. See map, description of geographic range and habitat, and conservation status in Stuart, Hoffmann, Chanson, Cox, Berridge, Ramani, and Young, 2008, Threatened Amph.
