Scinax skaios Pombal, Carvalho, Canelas, and Bastos, 2010, Zoologia, Curitiba, 27: 796. Holotype: MNRJ 54471, by original designation. Type locality: "Anglo American do Brazil (15° 05′ 17″ S, 49° 02′ 23″ W) municipality of Santa Rito do Novo Destino, state of Goiás, Brazil".

Known from the type locality in the municipality of Santa Rito do Novo Destino, state of Goiás, as well as São João d’Aliança, Alto Paraíso, Pirenópolis (Pirineus State Park) and Brasília, Brazil.

In the Scinax catharinae group according to the original publication, where the advertisement call and external morphology was provided. Vaz-Silva, Maciel, Nomura, Morais, Guerra Batista, Santos, Andrade, Oliveira, Brandão, and Bastos, 2020, Guia Ident. Anf. Goiás e Dist. Fed. Brasil Central: 82, provided an account. In the Ololygon catharinae group of Araujo-Vieira, Lourenço, Lacerda, Lyra, Blotto, Ron, Baldo, Pereyra, Suárez-Mayorga, Baêta, Ferreira, Barrio-Amorós, Borteiro, Brandão, Brasileiro, Donnelly, Dubeux, Köhler, Kolenc, Leite, Maciel, Nunes, Orrico, Peloso, Pezzuti, Reichle, Rojas-Runjaic, Silva, Sturaro, Langone, Garcia, Rodrigues, Frost, Wheeler, Grant, Pombal, Haddad, and Faivovich, 2023, S.
