Type locality: "Peru, Región Cusco, Provincia La Convención, near Pongo de Mainique in the vicinity of Santuario Natural Megantoni (12.2581° S, 72.8425° W), 670 m above sea level". Widely distributed in lowlands of Amazon Region (Bolivia, Peru, Colombia, Brazil (Amazonas and Amapá), Colombia, Venezuela, Guyana, French Guiana, and Venezuela, (Bolívar and Delta Amacuro States).

Faivovich, Haddad, Garcia, Frost, Campbell, and Wheeler, 2005, Bull. Am. Mus. Nat. Hist., 294: 111, could not assign this species to any of the currently recognized taxa, but pending examination of the type left this species incertae sedis.
