Osteocephalus heyeri Lynch, 2002, Rev. Acad. Colomb. Cienc. Exact. Fis. Nat., 26: 290. Holotype: ICN 46916, by original designation. Type locality: "Colombia, Amazonas, municipio Leticia, Km 18.5 carretera Leticia-Tarapacá y 1.5 km SE carretera a Nazareth, reserva 'Aguasclaras', 04° 05′ 02″ S, 70° 00′ 39″ W".

Known from the type locality (near Leticia, Colombia) and adjacent Departamento Loreto, Peru, Amazonas, as well as Amazonas, Brazil near the Colombian border on the south bank of the Japurá River.

Scripta, 42: 351–380. Melo-Sampaio, Ferrão, and Moraes, 2021, Breviora, 572: 12, provided a dot map that provided records from Colombia and Brazil.
