Xenohyla eugenioi Caramaschi, 1998, Amphibia-Reptilia, 19: 378. Holotype: MNRJ 18794, by original designation. Type locality: "Fazenda Boca do Mato, Municipality of Maracás (13° 25′ S, 40° 25′ W, 964 m altitude), State of Bahia, Brazil".

Almeida, Andrade, Caramaschi, and Dias, 2015, Check List, 11(no. 5, art. 1744): 1–3, provided the first record outside of Bahia, in the municipality of Pedra Mole, Sergipe, Brazil. Advertisement call and cytogenetics discussed by Marciano, Tanajura Silva, Costa, Orrico, and Dias, 2021, S. Am. J. Herpetol., 20: 17–23. Andrade, Dias, Almeida, Costa, and Neves, 2024, Pap. Avulsos Zool., São Paulo, 64(e202464002): 1–8, mapped the species and reported on its current and future predicted distribution.
