Distribution
Known only within 1.7 km of the type locality (3.5190°S, 78.3788°W) on a flat-topped limestone mountain in the Río Quimi basin, Provincia Zamora Chinchipe, Ecuador, at elevations between 1991 and 2134 m.

Comment
In the Hyloscirtus larinopygion group, most closely related to Hyloscirtus tapichalaca, according to the original publication. Dot map provided by Rivera-Correa, Ron, Nunes, Araujo-Vieira, Pinheiro, and Grant, 2024, Zootaxa, 5474: 112. Coloma and Duellman, 2025, Amph. Ecuador. Vol. 2: 414–416, provided an account, with photographs, which summarized identification, adult and larval morphology, systematics, natural history, distribution (including a dot map for Ecuador), and conservation.
