Hyloscirtus princecharlesi Coloma, Carvajal-Endara, Dueñas, Paredes-Recalde, Morales-Mite, Almeida-Reinoso, Tapia, Hutter, Toral-Contreras, and Guayasamin, 2012, Zootaxa, 3364: 26. Holotype: CJ 308, by original designation. Type locality: "a cascading stream on the border between Reserva Cotacachi-Cayapas and a private land owned by Manuel Quinchiguango, at Recinto San Antonio (ca. Cuellaje), Provincia Imbabura, Ecuador (0° 28′ 23.772″ N, 78° 34′ 12.756″ W; 2794 m)".

Distribution

Known from the type locality (San Antonio, ca. border of Reserva Ecológica Cotacachi-Cayapas, Imbabura Province) and 104.5 km to the south in Pichincha Province, northern Ecuador on the Cordillera Occidental at 2598 to 2819 m elevation.

In the Hyloscirtus larinopygion group according to the original publication. Coloma and Duellman, 2025, Amph. Ecuador. Vol. 2: 433–436, provided an account, with photographs, which summarized identification, adult and larval morphology, systematics, natural history, distribution (including a dot map), and conservation.
