Type locality: Halmahera and Ternate Is., Moluccas Is., Indonesia; lectotype from "Soa Konorra, Halmaheira, Molukken", Indonesia, according to Mertens, 1967, Senckenb. Biol., 48(A): 41.

Nyctimystes tennuigranulatus — Sulaeman, Hamidy, Farajallah, Fouquet, Riyanto, Arida, Mulyadi, Trilaksono, and Munir, 2021, Biodiversitas, 22: 3287. Incorrect subsequent spelling of the species name.

Removed from the synonymy of Nyctimystes infrafrenatus by Sulaeman, Hamidy, Farajallah, Fouquet, Riyanto, Arida, Mulyadi, Trilaksono, and Munir, 2021, Biodiversitas, 22: 3287–3298, who suggested on the basis of mtDNA matrilines to exclude the northern Moluccan population as Nyctimystes tenuigranulatus (previously a synonym of Nyctimystes infrafrenatus, following Boulenger, 1912, Zool. Jahrb., Jena, Abt. Syst., 15: 215). These authors suggested that the southern Moluccan Is. populations require additional sampling prior to making any taxonomic changes from Nyctimystes infrafrenatus.
