Sphaenorhynchus prasinus Bokermann, 1973, Rev. Brasil. Biol., 33: 589. Holotype: WCAB 46499, by original designation; now in MZUSP. Type locality: "Centro de Pesquisas do Cacau, Ilheu [sic], Bahia, Brasil".

Common Names

Bokermann's Lime Treefrog (Frank and Ramus, 1995, Compl. Guide Scient. Common Names Amph. Rept. World: 65).

Distribution

East-central Minas Gerais and north through eastern Bahia to Alagoas, Pernambuco, and eastern Paraíba. Seemingly no records from Sergipe, but expected there.

Similar to Sphaenorhynchus planicola according to the original publication. Santos and Moura, 2009, Herpetol. Rev., 40: 362-363, provided a range extension to Pernambuco and commented on the range. Silva, Luna-Dias, and Carvalho-e-Silva, 2013, Check List, 9: 1519–1520, provided a range extension to Alagoas, Brazil, and commented on the range. Dubeux, Silva, Nascimento, Gonçalves, and Mott, 2019, Rev. Nordestina Zool., 12: 18–52, summarized the literature on larval morphology. See Dubeux, Nascimento, Lima, Magalhães, Silva, Gonçalves, Almeida, Correia, Garda, Mesquita, Rossa-Feres, and Mott, 2020, Biota Neotrop., 20 (2: e20180718): 1–24, for characterization and identification of larvae north of the Rio São Francisco in the Atlantic Forest of northeastern Brazil. Bastos and Zina, 2022, Herpetol. Notes, 15: 365–376, reported the species from Jequié municipality, Bahia, Brazil, and briefly discussed its habitat and conservation status. Vieira, Vieira, Delfim, França, Alves, Montenegro, and Pereira, 2024, Check List, 20: 1320–1325, provided a record from the municipality of Santa Rita, Paraíba state, northeastern Brazil, as well as a dot map and niche-model map of the distribution. Dubeux, Lisboa, Nascimento, Araujo, Tiburcio, Torquato da Silva, Freitas, Guarnieri, and Mott, 2024, Stud. Neotrop. Fauna Environ., 59: 967–982, reported the species from Estação Ecológica de Murici, Alagoas state, Brazil, and discussed its habitat. Dias, Marcondes, Campos, Weber, Mira-Mendes, and Araujo-Vieira, 2025, Science et Nature, 112(62): 1–14, detailed larval buccopharyngeal morphology as part of a larger discussion of phylogenetics within the Sphaenorhynchinae. Carmo, Dias, Tanajura Silva, Rojas-Padilla, Solé, and Mira-Mendes, 2026, Salamandra, 61: 53–58, reported on vocalizations.
