Callixalus pictus Laurent, 1950, Rev. Zool. Bot. Afr., 44: 5. Holotype: MRAC unnumbered by original designation; MRAC 105745, according to Laurent, 1972, Bull. Seanc., Bruxelles, 1971–72: 265. Type locality: "Lutsiro (Alt. 2.600 m.), Territoire de Kisenyi, Ruanda [= Rwanda]".

Itombwe and Kabobo highlands of eastern Dem. Rep. Congo, never below 2100 m elevation, and Gishwati-Mukura and Nyunge Nationa Parks of western Rwanda, 2100 to 2600 m elevation
