Leptodactylus caatingae Heyer and Juncá, 2003, Proc. Biol. Soc. Washington, 116: 324. Holotype: ZUEC 8833, by original designation. Type locality: "Brazil, Bahia, Joazeiro, 09° 25′ S, 40° 30′ W".

Caatinga region of northeastern Brazil in the states of southern Ceará, Rio Grande do Norte, Paraíba, Pernambuco, Alagoas, Bahia, and northern Espírito Santo, Brazil.

 Vieira, Arzabe, and Vieira, 2006, Check List, 2: 55-56, provided the record for Paraíba, Brazil. Confused with Leptodactylus latinasus prior to its description. Magalhães, Garda, Amado, and de Sá, 2013, S. Am. J. Herpetol., 8: 203–210, reported on larval morphology. In the Leptodactylus fuscus species group of de Sá, Grant, Camargo, Heyer, Ponssa, and Stanley, 2014, S. Am. J. Herpetol., 9(Spec.
