Previous confused with Leptodactylus leptodactyloides according to the original publication, where the systematics, molecular phylogenetics, advertisement call, and geographic distribution and habitat of this member of the Leptodactylus melanonotus group were detailed. Lescure and Marty, 2000, Collect. Patrimoines Nat., Paris, 45: 254–255, provided a photo and brief account (as Leptodactylus leptodactyloides) for French Guiana.
