Endemic to Brazil in a narrow zone within the southeastern coastal Atlantic Forest region from Santos municipality in São Paulo state to extreme northeastern Rio Grande do Sul state, Brazil, through low-elevation areas (but reaching 500 m) located east of the Serra do Mar mountain range

In the Leptodactylus latrans group, previous confused with Leptodactylus latrans and Leptodactylus ocellatus according to the original publication where the species characteristics, including call, morphology, and molecular differentia were discussed. Magalhães, Camurugi, Lyra, Baldo, Gehara, Haddad, and Garda, 2022, Mol. Phylogenet. Evol., 169 (107398): 1–15, reported on systematics, evolutionary history, and range.
