Leptodactylus peritoaktites Heyer, 2005, Arq. Zool., São Paulo, 37: 325. Holotype: USNM 196739, by original designation. Type locality: "Hacienda Equinox, 38 km NNW of Santo Domingo de los Colorados, Esmeraldas, Ecuador, 1000', 00° 03′ S, 79° 20′ W".

Chocoan rainforest from Santo Domingo de los Tsáchilas and Manabí provinces, Ecuador, 179 to 330 m elevation.

Comment

In the Leptodactylus pentadactylus group and confused with Leptodactylus pentadactylus prior to its naming according to the original publication. In the Leptodactylus pentadactylus species group of de Sá, Grant, Camargo, Heyer, Ponssa, and Stanley, 2014, S. Am. J. Herpetol., 9(Spec. Issue 1): 1–123, and who provided a summary of relevant literature (adult morphology, identification, advertisement call, and range) on pp. 57–58. Coloma and Duellman, 2025, Amph. Ecuador. Vol. 4: 86–88, provided an account, with photographs, which summarized identification, adult morphology, systematics, natural history, distribution (including a dot map for Ecuador), and conservation.
