Common Names

Decary's Madagascar Frog (Frank and Ramus, 1995, Compl. Guide Scient. Common Names Amph. Rept. World: 101).

Distribution

Southeastern Madagascar where known from two geographically quite distant localities, Midongy du Sud (the type locality) and Ranomafana National Park; in Ranomafana, the species is locally common at mid-elevations (ca. 600-1050 m).

Prior to the revision of Glaw and Vences, 2006, Organisms Divers. Evol., 6: 236-253, in the Mantidactylus (Gephyromantis) redimitus group of Dubois, 1992, Bull. Mens. Soc. Linn. Lyon, 61: 312. See comment under Mantidactylus blanci. Glaw and Vences, 2007, Field Guide Amph. Rept. Madagascar, Ed. 3: 212-213, provided an account. See statement of geographic range, habitat, and conservation status (as Mantidactylus decaryi) in Stuart, Hoffmann, Chanson, Cox, Berridge, Ramani, and Young, 2008, Threatened Amph. World: 624. Wollenberg, Glaw, and Vences, 2012, Zootaxa, 3421: 32-60, discussed the systematics of this likely species complex and redelimited the range. Miralles, Köhler, Glaw, Wollenberg Valero, Crottini, Rosa, Du Preez, Gehring, Vieites, Ratsoavina, and Vences, 2023, Salamandra, 59: 1–41, placed this in their Gephyromantis decaryi complex and discussed its relationships and provided a dot map.
