Comment

See accounts (as both Gephyromantis malagasius and Gephyromantis ventrimaculatus, and prior to the partition of Gephyromantis malagasius into Gephyromantis matsilo, Gephyromantis oeldrugi, Gephyromantis fiharimpe, and Gephyromantis portonae and a redelimited Gephyromantis malagasius) by Vences, Glaw, Andreone, Jesu, and Schimmenti, 2002, Contrib. Zool., Amsterdam, 70: 198-202 (as both Gephyromantis malagasius and Gephyromantis ventrimaculatus and who described the advertisement call), and Glaw and Vences, 2007, Field Guide Amph. Rept. Madagascar, Ed. 3: 216-217 (who noted a similar unnamed species from Andasibe). Randrianiaina, Wollenberg, Hiobiarilanto, Strauss, Glos, and Vences, 2011, J. Nat. Hist., London, 45: 2871–2900, described larval morphology of nominal Gephyromantis ventrimaculatus.  Vences, Köhler, Crottini, Hofreiter, Hutter, Du Preez, Preick, Rakotoarison, Rancilhac, Raselimanana, Rosa, Scherz, and Glaw, 2022, Vert. Zool., Senckenberg, 72: 271–309, redelimited the species and discussed its literature, molecular markers, comparative morphology, range, and advertisement call.
