Confused with Leptolalax dringi and Leptolalax gracilis prior to its naming according to the original publication. Haas, Kueh, Joseph, bin Asri, Das, Hagmann, Schwander, and Hertwig, 2018, Evol. Syst., 2: 89–114, reported the species in the Maliau Basin Conservation Area, Sabah, Malaysia, and noticed the species previous misidentifications in the literature. Haas, Kueh, Joseph, bin Asri, Das, Hagmann, Schwander, and Hertwig, 2018, Evol.
