Comment

External morphology, advertisement call, and molecular markers discussed in the original publication, where this species was placed in the Leptobrachium smithi complex along with Leptobrachium tenasserimense, Leptobrachium rakhinense, and Leptobrachium smithi, and also noted to have been confused in part with Leptobrachium hasseltii, Leptobrachium smithi, and Leptobrachium rakhinense in previous literature, which they detailed.  Sarmah, Garg, Tajo, Upadhyaya K., Hanken, and Biju, 2026, PeerJ, 14(e20397): 1–62, reviewed the species, assigned it to their Leptobrachium smithi group, described cranial osteology as well as adult morphology, advertisement call, natural history, and provided a dot map of the distribution; they also noted that earlier records from southern Assam identified as Leptobrachium smithi are likely assignable to Leptobrachium sylheticum
