Vietnamophryne orlovi Poyarkov, Suwannapoom, Pawangkhanant, Aksornneam, Duong, Korost, and Che, 2018, Zool. Res., Kunming, 38(3): 16. Holotype: ZMMU A-5821, by original designation. Type locality: "from a primary montane subtropical forest on the southern slopes of Phia Oac Mt., Phia Oac-Phia Den National Park, Cao Bang Province, northern Vietnam (N22.600°, E105.884°; elevation 1 200 m a.s.l.) . . .  from soil in the roots of a tree fern on a steep mountain slope . . ., ca. 20 m from a small cascading stream".

Distribution

Cao Ban, Ninh Binh, Tanh Hoa, and Nghe An provinces, northern Vietnam, 1200 m elevation; Pingbian National Nature Reserve, Dawei Mountain, Honghe Prefecture, Yunnan Province, China.

Herpetol., 28 (3A): 37, provided general records for Cao Ban, Ninh Binh, and Nghe An provinces, Vietnam. Dau, Hoang, Do, Le, Trinh, Nguyen, and Pham, 2025, Amph. Rept. Conserv., 19: 79–98, reported the species from Pu Luong Nature Reserve, Tanh Hoa Province, Vietnam. Wu, Liu, Liu, Shi, Yang, Shi, and Yuan, 2022, J. Southwest Forest. Univ., 42: 155–159, provided a genetically confirmed record from Pingbian National Nature Reserve, Dawei Mountain, Honghe Prefecture, Yunnan Province, China.  Poyarkov, Gorin, Le, Trofimets, Duong, Nguyen, Pawangkhanant, Suwannapoom, and Nguyen, 2026, Herpetozoa, Wien, 39: 147, provided a dot map of the species.
