Microhyla picta Schenkel, 1901, Verh. Naturforsch. Ges. Basel, 13: 151. Holotype: NHMB, by original designation; NHMB 1412 according to Forcart, 1946, Verh. Naturforsch. Ges. Basel, 57: 134. Type locality: "Wahrschenlich Cochinchina", Vietnam.

Subgenus Diplopelma. See brief account by Bourret, 1942, Batr. Indochine: 527. Nguyen, Ho, and Nguyen, 2005, Checklist Amph. Rept. Vietnam: 46, provided specific localities for Vietnam. Vassilieva and Trounov, 2018, Zootaxa, 4444: 98–100, reported on larval morphology. Gorin, Solovyeva, Hasan, Okamiya, Karunarathna, Pawangkhanant, de Silva, Juthong, Milto, Nguyen, Suwannapoom, Haas, Bickford, Das, and Poyarkov, 2020, PeerJ, 8 (e9411): 1–47, placed this species in their Microhyla berdmorei group.
