Platyplectum superciliare Keferstein, 1867, Nachr. Ges. Wiss. Göttingen, 18: 346. Holotype: ZFMK 28331, according to Cogger, Cameron, and Cogger, 1983, Zool. Cat. Aust., Amph. Rept., 1: 19. Type locality: "Australien"; corrected to "most likely the environs of Sydney", Australia, by Parkin, Rowley, Gillard, Sopniewski, Shea, and Donnellan, 2024, Ichthyol. & Herpetol., 112: 93.

Previously placed in the synonymy of Limnodynastes dorsalis by Boulenger, 1882, Cat. Batr. Sal. Coll. Brit. Mus., Ed. 2: 261, with Limnodynastes dorsalis grayi by Parker, 1940, Novit. Zool., 42: 48; with Limnodynastes dumerilii by Cogger, Cameron, and Cogger, 1983, Zool. Cat. Aust., Amph. Rept., 1: 18, the name was applied by Parkin, Rowley, Gillard, Sopniewski, Shea, and Donnellan, 2024, Ichthyol. & Herpetol., 112: 76-105, as part of a phylogenetic study where comparative morphology, calls, and molecular markers were detailed.
