Type locality: "Hatam", Arfak Mountains, Vogelkop Peninsula, Papua, Indonesia (New Guinea).

Central highlands of New Guinea, including the mountains of the Bird's head, generally above 1500 m; Goodenough and Ferguson Islands in the d'Entrecasteaux Group.


In the Litoria arfakiana group according to Tyler and Davies, 1978, Aust. J. Zool., Suppl. Ser., 27 (63): 8. See Menzies and Zweifel, 1974, Am. Mus. Novit., 2558: 1-16. Günther, 2003, Faun. Abh. Staatl. Mus. Tierkd., Dresden, 24: 209-216, provided a record for Papua, Indonesia. Menzies, 2006, Frogs New Guinea & Solomon Is.: 133-134, provided a brief account and considered this species to be in his Litoria pratti group.
