Distribution
Itombwe Highlands, southern Kivu, eastern Dem. Rep. Congo, 2400 to 2850 m elevation, in swamps and montane forest.
Comment
Frétey, 2008, Alytes, 25: 99-172, summarized the literature. Not addressed by Zimkus, Rödel, and Hillers, 2010, Mol. Phylogenet. Evol., 55: 883-900, so not assigned to species group. Greenbaum and Chifundera, 2012, Herpetol. Rev., 43: 254–259, reported the rediscovery of this species, not otherwise collected since 1954. Channing and Rödel, 2019, Field Guide Frogs & Other Amph. Afr.: 312–313, provided a brief account, photograph, and range map.
