Phrynobatrachus horsti Rödel, Burger, Zassi-Boulou, Emmrich, Penner, and Barej, 2015, Zootaxa, 4032: 56. Holotype: ZMB 81698, by original designation. Type locality: "Republic of the Congo, Niari Department, 02°12’47.8’’ S, 12°50’06.0’’ E".

Distribution

Known only from Kouilou and Niari departments in southwestern Rep. Congo and in adjacent Batéké Plateau of southern Gabon, 554 to 728 m elevation.

Most similar to Phrynobatrachus ruthbeatae, with which it had previously been confused, and Phrynobatrachus batesii according to the original publication. Jongsma, Tobi, Dixon-MacCallum, Bamba-Kaya, Yoga, Mbega, Mve Beh, Emrich, and Blackburn, 2017, Amph. Rept. Conserv., 11 (1: e144): 16, provided a record for southeastern Gabon and briefly discussed habitat and range. Dewynter and Frétey, 2019, Cah.
