Phrynobatrachus mayokoensis Rödel, Burger, Zassi-Boulou, Emmrich, Penner, and Barej, 2015, Zootaxa, 4032: 67. Holotype: ZMB 81732, by original designation. Type locality: "Republic of the Congo, Niari Department, Lekoumou, about 23 km E of Tsinguidi, about 4 km SE of Mayoko Posté, start of path to site 20, 740 m a.s.l., 02°26’05.6’’ S, 12°56’16.9’’ E".

Distribution
Mayoko District of the Niari Department, south-western Rep. Congo, Monts Birougou National Park and Ogooué-Ivindo Province in Gabon; possibly in northwestern Angola. See comment.

Dewynter and Frétey, 2019, Cah. Fondation Biotope, 27: 33, summarized the literature for Gabon and noted without discussion a record of Phrynobatrachus ogoensis in Gabon by Larson and Zimkus, 2015, Herpetol. Rev., 46: 57, to be of this species. Channing and Rödel, 2019, Field Guide Frogs & Other Amph. Afr.: 300–301, provided a brief account, photograph, and range map. In the Phrynobatrachus calcaratus group of Goutte, Reyes-Velasco, and Boissinot, 2019, ZooKeys, 824: 53–70. Ernst, Lautenschläger, Branquima, and Hölting, 2020, Zoosyst. Evol., 96: 255, noted the presence of Phrynobatrachus cf. mayokoensis, in Uigé Province, northwestern Angola.
