Comment

Potential confused only with Phrynobatrachus batesii on morphology according to the original publication. The record for Gabon (Zimkus and Larson, 2013, Herpetol. Rev., 44: 104), was subsequently assigned to the newly named Phrynobatrachus horsti by Rödel, Burger, Zassi-Boulou, Emmrich, Penner, and Barej, 2015, Zootaxa, 4032: 66. Dewynter and Frétey, 2019, Cah. Fondation Biotope, 27: 34, summarized the literature for Gabon and provided photographs (p. 62), and noted that specimens previous reported by Frétey and Blanc, 2002 "2001", Bull. Soc. Zool. France, 126: 386, as Phrynobatrachus sp. from Gabon, are actually Phrynobatrachus ruthbeataeChanning and Rödel, 2019, Field Guide Frogs & Other Amph. Afr.: 284–285, provided a brief account, photograph, and range map. In the Phrynobatrachus natalensis group of Goutte, Reyes-Velasco, and Boissinot, 2019, ZooKeys, 824: 53–70. In the Phrynobatracus ruthbeateae group according to Gvoždík, Nečas, Dolinay, Zimkus, Schmitz, and Fokam, 2020, PeerJ, 8 (e8393): 1–52.
