Distribution

Known only from low elevations on Bioko Island (Equatorial Guinea) and coastal Cameroon near Mount Cameroon.

Removed from the synonym of Xenopus tropicalis by Evans, Carter, Greenbaum, Gvoždík, Kelley, McLaughlin, Pauwels, Portik, Stanley, Tinsley, Tobias, and Blackburn, 2015, PLoS One, 10(12): e0142823: 11 (who provided a detailed account on pp. 11–23, provided a range map, and noted the species as tetraploid), where it had been placed by Müller, 1910, Abh.
