Restricted to southeast of the Great Rift Vally in the Bale Mountains of Ethiopia, 1745 to 2550 m elevation; from Kibre Mengist to Irba Mud and north of Hagere Mariam. 


In the Ptychadena neumanni species complex according to the original publication. Freilich, Tollis, and Boissinot, 2014, Mol. Phylogenet. Evol., 71: 157–169, presented molecular evidence for the existence of this species, which they referred to as species 4 of the Ptychadena neumanni species complex.
