Ptychadena nuerensis Smith, Noonan, and Colston, 2017, R. Soc. Open Sci., 4(170021): 11. Holotype: Timothy J. Colston 455, by original designation. Type locality: "Telouse, Lare, Gambela Region, Ethiopia, 8.26875° N, 33.94616° E, 415 m". Invalid nomenclatural act due to publishing a new name in an electronic journal without zoobank number.

Distribution
Lowland savannahs, particularly at the margins of permanent water, west of the Great Rift Valley in Ethiopia; but may be more widespread into neighboring countries.

Natural Resident: Ethiopia
Endemic: Ethiopia
Comment
Stated to be the sister taxon of Ptychadena nilotica in the original (but nomenclaturally invalid) publication. Unassigned to any of the four species of Nečas, Mazuch, Czurda, Elmi, Rödel, and Gvoždík, 2025, Afr. J. Herpetol., 73: 236–260, due to being basal below those four.
