Amolops bellulus Liu, Yang, Ferraris, and Matsui, 2000, Copeia, 2000: 536. Holotype: KIZ 9810022, by original designation. Type locality: "small stream on west slope of Mt. Gaoligong in Pianma Township, Lushiu County, Nujiang Prefecture, Yunnan Province, China, close to the border between Yunnan and Myanmar, 26° 01.9′ N, 98° 38.0′ E, 1540 m elevation".

Distribution
Known only from the region of the type locality (Pianma Township, Lushiu County, Nujiang Prefecture, western Yunnan, China) on the western slope of Mount Gaoligong; expected in closely adjacent eastern Myanmar (Kachin).

Fei, Hu, Ye, and Huang, 2009, Fauna Sinica, Amph. 3: 1510-1514, provided an account, figures, and range map, and included the species in their Amolops monticola group. In the Amolops monticola group of Stuart, Bain, Phimmachak, and Spence, 2010, Herpetologica, 66: 52-66. Fei, Ye, and Jiang, 2010, Colored Atlas of Chinese Amph.: 396, provided a brief account. Fei, Ye, and Jiang, 2012, Colored Atlas Chinese Amph. Distr.: 406, provided an account, illustrations, and a range map.. Wu, Yan, Stuart, Prendini, Suwannapoom, Dahn, Zhang, Cai, Xu, Jiang, Chen, Lemmon, Lemmon, Raxworthy, Orlov, Murphy, and Che, 2020, Mol. Phylogenet. Evol., 144 (106701): 1–13, suggested that this nominal species may be a composite of at least two lineages. In the Amolops monticola group of Wu, Yan, Stuart, Prendini, Suwannapoom, Dahn, Zhang, Cai, Xu, Jiang, Chen, Lemmon, Lemmon, Raxworthy, Orlov, Murphy, and Che, 2020, Mol. Phylogenet. Evol., 144 (106701): 1–13, who discussed molecular phylogenetics. In the Amolops monticola group of Jiang, Ren, Lyu, Wang, Wang, Lv, Wu, and Li, 2021, Zool. Res., Kunming, 42: 574–591.
