Type locality: "Laos, Khammouan Province, Nakai District, Nakai-Nam Theun National Biodiversity Conservation Area, 3 m from Houay Tin Tou Stream in evergreen forest, collected on a tree 1.5 m above the ground, 17° 58′ N, 105° 34′ E, 700 m elevation".
Odorrana compotrix — Che, Pang, Zhao, Wu, Zhao, and Zhang, 2007, Mol. Phylogenet. Evol., 43: 1–13, by implication.
Amolops compotrix — Stuart, 2008, Mol. Phylogenet. Evol., 46: 51.
Common Names
Khammouan Torrent Frog (Poyarkov, Nguyen, Popov, Geissler, Pawangkhanant, Neang, Suwannapoom, and Orlov, 2021, Russ. J. Herpetol., 28 (3A): 44).
Drinking Partner Torrent Frog (Stuart, Seateun, Sivongxay, and Phimmachak, 2025 "2024", in Wildlife Lao PDR: 38).
Distribution
Known only from northern Laos (Khammouan and Khouang provinces, 700–1425 m elevation), Vietnam (Kon Tum, Thua Tien Hue, and Son La Provinces) so presumably found throughout the southern highlands of Laos and the adjacent central highlands of Vietnam, possibly to extreme northeastern Cambodia.
Geographic Occurrence
Natural Resident: Laos, Vietnam
Likely/Controversially Present: Cambodia
Comment
Related to Amolops archotaphus (as Rana) with previous records from Laos applying to this species, according to the original publication. In the Amolops monticola group of Stuart, Bain, Phimmachak, and Spence, 2010, Herpetologica, 66: 52–66. In the Amolops monticola group of Wu, Yan, Stuart, Prendini, Suwannapoom, Dahn, Zhang, Cai, Xu, Jiang, Chen, Lemmon, Lemmon, Raxworthy, Orlov, Murphy, and Che, 2020, Mol. Phylogenet. Evol., 144 (106701): 1–13, who discussed molecular phylogenetics. Pham, Sung, Pham, Le, Ziegler, and Nguyen, 2019, Raffles Bull. Zool., 67: 363, provided a record for Son La Province, Vietnam. In the Amolops monticola group of Jiang, Ren, Lyu, Wang, Wang, Lv, Wu, and Li, 2021, Zool. Res., Kunming, 42: 574–591. Stuart, Seateun, Sivongxay, and Phimmachak, 2025 "2024", in Wildlife Lao PDR: 38, summarized literature, taxonomy (including a suggestion that this species needs to be compared in detail to Amolops truongi), habitat, and detailed range for Laos. Reported from Vu Quang National Park, Ha Tinh Province, Vietnam, by Dau, Pham, Nguyen, Toan, Tran, and Pham, 2024, Biodiversity Data J., 12(e122598): 1–19.
