Previously confused with Amolops cremnobatus, according to the original publication, where this member of the Amolops larutensis group was distinguished by larval and adult morphology, coloration, and mt- and nuDNA molecular markers. Stuart, Seateun, Sivongxay, and Phimmachak, 2025 "2024", in Wildlife Lao PDR: 38, summarized literature, taxonomy, habitat, and detailed range for Laos. In the Amolops larutensis group of Biju, Ellepola, Sarmah, Upadhyaya K., Bisht, Tajo, Hanken, and Garg, 2026, Bull. Mus. Comp. Zool., 164: 1–144, who reported on the molecular and morphological phylogenetics of the group, with special reference to the species of India.
