Type locality: "Ho Thau village, Ho Thau commune, Tam Duong district, Lai Chau Province, 22° 24′ 58.5″ N 103° 36′ 43.3″ E, altitude 2400 m a.s.l. (rapid stream on slope of Mu Hum mountain)".

Distribution
Known from Ho Thau commune, Tam Duong district, Lai Chau Province, and Ngoc Chien Commune, Muong La District, Son La Province, Vietnam, 2050–2400 m elevation; also reported from Ganiang Township, Yuanyang County, Guanyinshan Provincial Nature Reserve, southern Yunnan, China, 2495 m elevation.

In the Amolops mantzorum group of Jiang, Ren, Lyu, Wang, Wang, Lv, Wu, and Li, 2021, Zool. Res., Kunming, 42: 574–591. Pham, Nguyen, Tran, Le, Nguyen, Nguyen, Pham, Dang, and Doan, 2023, VNU J. Sci. Earth Environ. Sci., 39: 53–61, provided a record for Son La Province, Vietnam. Nominal Amolops ottorum is the sister taxon of Amolops tuberodepressus, on the basis of morphology, according to the original publication. In the Amolops mantzorum group of Jiang, Ren, Lyu, Wang, Wang, Lv, Wu, and Li, 2021, Zool. Res., Kunming, 42: 574–591. : 1–17, reported on the morphology and molecular markers of this species, placing Amolops ottorum into synonymy and providing a genetically confirmed record from Guanyinshan Provincial Nature Reserve, Yunnan Province, China, near the Vietnam border.
