Type locality: "peat swamp in Giam-Siak Kecil Wildlife Reserve, Tasik Betung Village, Sungai Mandau Sub-district, Siak District, Riau Province, Sumatra, Indonesia (01° 15′ N, 101° 30′ E, 5-15 m asl)". Incorrect original usage.

Distribution

Known from the type locality (Giam-Siak Kecil Wildlife Reserve, Tasik Betung Village, Sungai Mandau Subdistrict, Siak District, Riau Province, Sumatra, Indonesia), western Kalimantan and Serasan I., Indonesia; peninsular Malaysia (Ayer Hitam Utara Forest Reserve, Segamat, Johor).

Comment

The sister taxon of a group composed of Hylarana glandulosa, Hylarana baramica, and Hylarana laterimaculata according to the original publication. Chan, Muin, Badli-Sham, Fatihah-Syafiq, Abraham, Ahmad, and Zakaria, 2020, J. Herpetol., 54: 282–288, discussed the range of the species, its call, and morphology and provided the record for peninsular Malaysia. Herlambang, Riyanto, Munir, Hamidy, Kimura, Eto, and Mumpuni, 2022, Treubia, 49: 78, reported the species from Serasan I., Natuna Is., Indonesia.
