Meristogenys penrissenensis Shimada, Matsui, Nishikawa, and Eto, 2015, Zool. Sci., Tokyo, 32: 476. Holotype: KUHE 48520, by original designation. Type locality: "a stream of the northern slope of Mt. Penrissen, crossing Jalan Puncak Borneo (Borneo Heights Road) close to Borneo Highlands Resort, Padawan, Kuching Division, western Sarawak, East Malaysia (1.08′32″N, 110.13′38″E, 460 m a.s.l.)".

Distribution
Northern slope of Mount Penrissen and Taman Rekreasi Ranchan Serian, western Sarawak (East Malaysia) in western Borneo, 60–870 m elevation; expected in adjacent Kalimantan, Indonesia.
Comment
The sister taxon of Meristogenys jerboa according to the original publication. Haas, Das, Hertwig, Bublies, and Schulz-Schaeffer, 2022, Guide to the Tadpoles of Borneo: 206–209, summarized the knowledge of habitat, reproduction, larval morphology and coloration.
