Genetically close, but morphologically distinguishable from Gracixalus guangdongensis according to the original publication, which also noted that this species had previously been confused with Gracixalus jinxiuensis. Lorphengsy, Nguyen, Poyarkov, Wu, Pawangkhanant, Passorn, Che, and Suwannapoom, 2021, Biodiversity Data J., 9 (e67667): 1–15, reported the species from Houapan, Laos, and Doi Phu Kha National Par, Nan province, Thailand, and reidentified a record from Lao Cai, Vietnam, as Gracixalus quangi. Lorphengsy, Nguyen, Poyarkov, Wu, Pawangkhanant, Passorn, Che, and Suwannapoom, 2021, Biodiversity Data J., 9 (e67667): 1–15, employing molecular assay, redelimited the range, extending it to Thailand.
