Philautus saueri Malkmus and Riede, 1996, Sauria, Berlin, 18: 27, 29. Holotype: ZMB 53626, by original designation. Type locality: "Leptospernum-Dacrydium-Kugelschirmkronenwald östlich der Paka-Cave (3050 m) am SW-Hang des Mt. Kinabalu", Sabah, Malaysia.

Montane forest between Layang Layang and of Pakka Cave, 2200-3500 m elevation, on the southwestern slopes of Mount Kinabalu, Sabah, Malaysia.
Comment
In the Philautus aurifasciatus group as defined in the original publication. See identification table by Manthey and Grossmann, 1997, Amph. Rept. Südostasiens: 122-123, to compare this species to other rhacophorids of the Sunda Shelf region. Malkmus, Manthey, Vogel, Hoffmann, and Kosuch, 2002, Amph. Rept. Mount Kinabalu: 191-193, provided an account.
