Ixalus flaviventris Boulenger, 1882, Cat. Batr. Sal. Coll. Brit. Mus., Ed. 2: 105. Syntypes: BMNH 1947.2.27.2–7, 1947.2.26.94, 1947.2.27.1, 1947.2.26.98–99, according to Bossuyt and Dubois, 2001, Zeylanica, 6: 30, who designated BMNH 1947.2.26.98 as lectotype and described it on page 73–74. Type locality: "Malabar", India. Biju, 2001, Occas. Publ. Indian Soc. Conserv. Biol., 1: 8, noted the imprecision of this type locality.

Type locality: "a site (10.3690 N, 76.9948 E) in a wet evergreen forest fragment, Valparai Plateau, Anaimalai Massif (...), [Tamil Nadu,] Peninsular India". India Sri Lanka: 78, provided access to literature and range. Biju and Bossuyt, 2009, Zool. J. Linn. Soc., 155: 413–414, provided an account, distribution map, and discussed relationships, as Philautus hassanensis. A brief characterization provided by Subramanian, Dinesh, and Radhakrishnan, 2013, Atlas of Endemic Amph. W. Ghats: 137. Abraham, Zachariah, and Cyriac, 2015, Zootaxa, 4048: 90–100, discussed the status of this species.
