Theloderma lateriticum Bain, Nguyen, and Doan, 2009, Zootaxa, 2191: 60. Holotype: AMNH 168757/IEBR A. 0860, by original designation. Type locality: "Vietnam, Lao Cai Province, Van Ban District, Nam Tha Commune, above the Nam Tha river in disturbed, submontane semi-evergreen forest near 21° 54′56″ N, 104° 21′ 39″E, between 1300-1400 m elevation".

Distribution
Known from the type locality (Nam Tha Commune, Van Ban District) in Lao Cai Province, Vietnam) east to Quang Ninh and Bac Giang Provinces and south to Ha Tinh province, Vietnam, in submontane tropical evergreen forest; also reported from Shiwandashan National Nature Reserve, southern Guangxi, China, and from Vang Vieng District, Vientiane Province, Laos, 1130 m elevation.

Hecht, Pham, Nguyen, Nguyen, Bonkowski, and Ziegler, 2013, Biodiversity J., 4: 507–552, reported a record from Tay Yen Tu Nature Reserve, Bac Giang Province, northeastern Vietnam and discussed the range. In the subgenus Theloderma, Theloderma leporosum species group of Poyarkov, Orlov, Moiseeva, Pawangkhanant, Ruangsuwan, Vassilieva, Galoyan, Nguyen, and Gogoleva, 2015, Russ. J. Herpetol., 22: 276. Chen, Liao, Zhou, and Mo, 2019, Biodiversity J., 10: 25–36, recorded the species from Guangxi, China, and reported on larval morphology and advertisement call. Nguyen, Brakels, Maury, Sudavanh, Pawangkhanant, Idiiatullina, Lorphengsy, Inkhavilay, Suwannapoom, and Poyarkov, 2020, Amph. Rept. Conserv., 14 (2: e248): 218–249, briefly discussed the natural history and range and provided the first country record in Laos (Vientiane Province, Vang Vieng District). Nguyen, Toan, Ky, and Le, 2020, Herpetol. Rev., 51: 534–535, provided localities from Ha Tinh, Nghe An, and Ninh Binh provinces, Vietnam. Pham, Do, Ngo, Tran, Ziegler, and Nguyen, 2020, Check List, 16: 1025–1041, provided a record from Hai Ha District, Quang Ninh Province, Vietnam, on the Guangxi, China, border.
