Comment
Closely related to Theloderma asperum according to the original publication. Das, Grinang, and Min, 2013, Asian Herpetol. Res., Ser. 2, 4: 221–223, reported the species in Sarawak, Malaysia, on the island of Borneo. In the subgenus Theloderma, Theloderma asperum species group of Poyarkov, Orlov, Moiseeva, Pawangkhanant, Ruangsuwan, Vassilieva, Galoyan, Nguyen, and Gogoleva, 2015, Russ. J. Herpetol., 22: 276. Niyomwan, Srisom, and Pawangkhanant, 2019, Field Guide Amph. Thailand: 450–451, provided a brief account (description, photographs, habitat, and range) for Thailand (in Thai). Poyarkov, Nguyen, Popov, Geissler, Pawangkhanant, Neang, Suwannapoom, and Orlov, 2021, Russ. J. Herpetol., 28 (3A): 64, suggested the species is to be found in Indonesia, presumably based on MVZ 272184, from West Sumatra, included in the phylogenetic analysis by Chan, Hutter, Wood, Grismer, and Brown, 2020, Proc. R. Soc. London, Ser. B, Biol. Sci., 287 (20202102): 1–9. Ginal, Mühlenbein, and Rödder, 2021, North-West. J. Zool., Romania, 17: 65–72, reported on the advertisement call. Yustian, Iqbal, Tanjung, Pormansyah, Pragustiandi, Saputra, Setiawan, and Puspito, 2023, Herpetol. Notes, 16: 497–500, provided a new record from South Sumatra and mapped the range on that island, suggesting that it likely occurs throughout the island in lowland and hill forest at elevations of 30 to 1130 m, and possibly occurring on the larger satellite islands such as Bangka and Belitung.
