Bolitoglossa hiemalis Lynch, 2001, J. Herpetol., 35: 226. Holotype: ICN 43850, by original designation. Type locality: "Páramo del Duende, Cerro Calima, Municipio de Río Frío, Departamento de Valle del Cauca, Colombia, between 3300 and 3600 m."
Bolitoglossa (Eladinea) hyemalis — Parra-Olea, García-París, and Wake, 2004, Biol. J. Linn. Soc., 81: 336. Incorrect subsequent spelling.

Distribution
Páramo del Duende, Cerro Calima, municipality of Río Frio, in the department of Valle del Cauca and Litoral de San Juan Municipality in Chocó Department, in Colombia, on the Cordillera Occidental, from 3200–3800 m elevation.

Tentatively placed in the Bolitoglossa palmata group (ca. = Bolitoglossa adspersa group) in the original publication. In the Bolitoglossa (Eladinea) adspersa group of Parra-Olea, García-París, and Wake, 2004, Biol. J. Linn. Soc., 81: 336. See map, description of geographic range and habitat, and conservation status in Stuart, Hoffmann, Chanson, Cox, Berridge, Ramani, and Young, 2008, Threatened Amph. World: 559. Raffaëlli, 2013, Urodeles du Monde, 2nd ed.: 334, provided a brief account, photograph, and range map. Raffaëlli, 2022, Salamanders & Newts of the World: 716–717, provided an account summarizing systematics, life history, population status, and distribution (including a polygon map).
