Bolitoglossa schizodactyla Wake and Brame, 1966, Fieldiana, Zool., 51: 1. Holotype: FMNH 141241, by original designation. Type locality: "El Valle de Anton, 560 meters (1,837 feet), Provincia de Cocle, Panama".

Distribution

Humid lowlands and premontane slopes of the Atlantic slope from southeastern Costa Rica (650–780 m) to central Panama (sea level–750 m); also from the Pacific slope at El Valle de Antón, Coclé Province, and La Campana, Panama Province, Panama (300–850 m).

Soc., 81: 336; formerly in the Bolitoglossa lignicolor group of Wake and Lynch, 1976, Sci. Bull. Nat. Hist. Mus. Los Angeles Co., 25: 1-65. See account by Savage, 2002, Amph. Rept. Costa Rica: 137. Köhler, 2011, Amph. Cent. Am.: 40–69, compared this species with others from Central America and provided a map and photograph. Raffaëlli, 2013, Urodeles du Monde, 2nd ed.: 325, provided a brief account, photograph, and map. Lotzkat, Wehrenberg, Haas, and Köhler, 2021, Check List, 17: 1541–1556, reported the species from  the upper drainage of Río Guázaro, Parque Nacional Santa Fé, Veraguas, Panama. Raffaëlli, 2022, Salamanders & Newts of the World: 694–695, provided an account summarizing systematics, life history, population status, and distribution (including a polygon map).
