Bolitoglossa splendida Boza-Oviedo, Rovito, Chaves, García-Rodríguez, Artavia, Bolaños, and Wake, 2012, Zootaxa, 3309: 42. Holotype: UCR 19835, by original designation. Type locality: "headwaters region of the Lori branch of the Río Coén near Cerro Arbolado (coordinates 9.3567° N, 83.229° W) at 1826 m elevation, Provincia de Limón, Costa Rica".

Distribution

Known only from the vicinity of the type locality, a short distance north of the continental divide and below Cerro Arbolado in the Sierra de Talamanca, 1826 m elevation, Provincia de Limón, Costa Rica.

Comment

 Raffaëlli, 2022, Salamanders & Newts of the World: 683–684, provided an account summarizing systematics, life history, population status, and distribution (including a polygon map). Klank, Chaves, Castro, and Arias, 2025, Zootaxa, 5642: 427–450, provided a molecular tree (cytb and 16S mtDNA) for the species of the Bolitoglossa subpalmata group, as well as a dot map of the species.
