Herpetol., 48: 519. Holotype: unnumbered in original publication; MVZ 108854 according to Vásquez-Almazán and Rovito, 2015, J. Herpetol., 49: 161. Type locality: "Rta. Nacional 5, ca. 3 mi S (by road) of Purulhá, Municipio Purulhá, Departamento Baja Verapaz, Guatemala, 1,650–1,675 m elevation, approximately 15°12′58″ N, 90°12′49″ W, WGS83 datum". Corrected to "WGS84 datum" by Vásquez-Almazán and Rovito, 2015, J. Herpetol., 49: 161.

Distribution

Highlands of the eastern portion of the Departamento Baja Verapaz, in the vicinity of Purulhá and Chilascó as well as from the southern slopes and crest of the Sierra de las Minas in the Departamento El Progreso and Zacapa, 1585 to 2725 m elevation in cloud forest.

Confused with Bolitoglossa meliana prior to its naming according to the original publication. Raffaëlli, 2022, Salamanders & Newts of the World: 781–782, provided an account summarizing systematics, life history, population status, and distribution (including a polygon map).
