Comment
See account by McCranie and Wilson, 2002, Amph. Honduras: 135–140, who suggest that Cryptotriton wakei is conspecific with Cryptotriton nasalis. McCranie, 2006, Cat. Am. Amph. Rept., 803: 1–4, provided a review and (p. 3) doubted the distinctiveness of Cryptotriton wakei. McCranie, 2007, Herpetol. Rev., 38: 36, summarized the departmental distribution in Honduras. See photograph, map, description of geographic range and habitat, and conservation status in Stuart, Hoffmann, Chanson, Cox, Berridge, Ramani, and Young, 2008, Threatened Amph. World: 570. Köhler, 2011, Amph. Cent. Am.: 70–72, compared this species with others from Central America and provided a map and photograph. McCranie and Rovito, 2014, Zootaxa, 3795: 67-70, formally placed Cryptotriton wakei into the synonymy of Cryptotriton nasalis. Raffaëlli, 2013, Urodeles du Monde, 2nd ed.: 360, provided brief accounts (as Cryptotriton nasalis and Cryptotriton wakei), photograph, and range map. Raffaëlli, 2022, Salamanders & Newts of the World: 832–834, provided an account summarizing systematics, life history, population status, and distribution (including a polygon map). Tighe, 2022, Smithson. Contrib. Zool., 654: 41, briefly discussed the current location of paratypes.
