Cryptotriton xucaneborum Rovito, Vázquez-Almazán, Papenfuss, Parra-Olea, and Wake, 2015, Zool. J. Linn. Soc., 175: 157. Holotype: MVZ 263575, by original designation. Type locality: "Guatemala, Departamento Alta Verapaz, Municipio Senahú, 3.8 km S (by road) Finca El Volcán, 15.46102° N 89.87055° W (WGS84 datum), 1370 m".
Common Names
Sierra de Xucaneb Hidden Salamander (original publication).
Distribution
Known from type locality (Municipio Senahú and Municipio Tucurú, Alta Verapaz, Guatemala, both in the Sierra de Xucaneb, 1370 and 20145 m elevation.
Geographic Occurrence
Natural Resident: Guatemala
Endemic: Guatemala
Comment
The sister taxon of Cryptotriton veraepacis, and confused with it prior to description, according to the original publication. Raffaëlli, 2022, Salamanders & Newts of the World: 836, provided an account summarizing systematics, life history, population status, and distribution (including a polygon map).
