Type locality: "Red River, Arkansas", USA; corrected to "Red River in eastern Oklahoma" by Dunn, 1926, Salamanders Fam. Plethodontidae: 314; restricted to "near Fort Towson, Choctaw County, Oklahoma", USA, by Dundee, 1950, Herpetologica, 6: 27-28, who discussed the type locality.

U.S. Canada: 262–264 (in the sense of including Eurycea multiplicata griseogaster, which is now in the synonymy of Eurycea tynerensis). Bonett and Chippindale, 2004, Mol. Ecol., 13: 1189–1203, revised the concept of the species to exclude former Eurycea multiplicata griseogaster, which they placed in the synonymy of Eurycea tynerensis, and they provided molecular data that suggests multiple species under the name Eurycea multiplicata sensu stricto. Bonett, Steffen, Lambert, Wiens, and Chippindale, 2014 "2013", Evolution, 68: 148, provided a molecular tree that suggests the possibility of cryptic species. Trauth and Dundee, 2005, in Lannoo (ed.), Amph. Declines: 753–755, provided a detailed account that summarized the biology and conservation literature. Raffaëlli, 2013, Urodeles du Monde, 2nd ed.: 243, provided a brief account, photograph, and map. Altig and McDiarmid, 2015, Handb. Larval Amph.
