Removed from the synonymy of Eurycea spelaea by Phillips, Fenolio, Emel, and Bonett, 2017, J. Biogeograph., 44: 2470, where it had been placed by Brandon, 1966, Copeia, 1966: 555–561, and Smith, 1968, Wasmann J. Biol., 26: 156. See Eurycea spelaea record for relevant literature. Raffaëlli, 2022, Salamanders & Newts of the World: 543, provided an account, summarizing systematics, life history, population status, and distribution (including a polygon map). Tighe, 2022, Smithson. Contrib. Zool., 654: 63–64, briefly discussed the location of paratypes.
